Heard enough about contemporary scandals and corruption? Take a break from politics. Consider Shakespeare's handling of subjects such as power plays, lust, murder, revenge, and corruption in high places. These issues are the stuff of Hamlet, which also displays the religious scruples of the protestant Reformation and the interest in classics of the Elizabethan Age. Participants will read the play and hear excerpts from the audio version of Kenneth Branagh's production. Discussions will center on Hamlet's motivations for his actions and inaction as well as Shakespeare's imagery relating to the themes.

A native of New Orleans and a graduate of Emory University, Eleanor taught British Literature in Miami for 25 years. Her favorite work is Shakespeare's Hamlet. She says that seeing Kenneth Branagh as the Prince of Denmark at the Royal Shakespeare Theater in Stratford-on-Avon remains the highlight of her many excursions to England and her years of experience as an Anglophile.
