This is a one day discussion-oriented class in which the basic factors of the decline and fall of Republican Rome and those involved in the western Roman Empire's decline and fall are compared to what is going on in American history. We will highlight major points in Roman history and discuss possible parallels in the U.S.

 

David Franklin is a retired Young Harris College professor, having taught there from 1979 - 2007. He has a PhD. from the University of Alabama. He was involved with archaeological digs of the Roman Ruins near Hadrian's Wall in England and has traveled extensively in France to study Roman ruins. He also participated in a Colloquium, "Rome, City as Text" and published the findings in 2005.
