This class will uncover the myriad reasons so many native English speakers struggle with their own language. From its inauspicious beginnings to its dominance in world business and culture, English has stymied both speakers and writers with its inconsistent spelling, its complicated grammar, and its nonsensical idioms.  Writing and speaking English “correctly” can be daunting even to the smartest student in the class. This overview of English’s history as a spoken and written language will offer explanations for our wacky language and reassurances that our English may be better than we think!
