THE MANY FACES OF TONE

(4 sessions)

Tone is something we all recognize when we see it, but it is a term that is hard to pin down in a single definition. In fact, tone is like a multiple personality, often taking on different selves within a single poem. The focus of this class will be to examine the many facets of tone and how it functions. Poems that are outright mean, funny, empathic, or a mix of all of these will be studied. Participants will bring in their own poems for critiquing, with special attention given to the tonal quality of the work. Poets of all skill levels are welcome. It is guaranteed that you will laugh during this class as humor is one of the most enjoyable tonal elements of all!
Rosemary has lived in Blairsville, GA, for 15 years and is a graduate of Young Harris College and University of Georgia and holds an MFA in Writing from Spalding University. Her poetry has been published in various journals, including The Comstock Review, Main Street Rag, and Mom Writer's Literary Magazine. She is currently seeking a home for her collection of poems, "Splitting the Soil." Rosemary is the VP for Planning & Assessment at YHC.
