This course will explore bird watching as a hobby to be enjoyed at any age and location.  After an introduction to biology and behavior, the course will focus on the birds of north Georgia – identification, habitat and songs.  Related topics will include field guides, binoculars, migration, and how to create a backyard sanctuary.  There will also be field trips in and around Young Harris starting probably at 8 AM and possibly extending beyond the specified class time.

Tom Striker has been a birder for 40 years and has operated a bird feeding supply store in Blue Ridge, GA for the last five with educational activities such as seminars and bird walks.  His first career as a professional forester included 15 years with the Forest Service.  He is a member of the American Birding Association, Atlanta Audubon Society, Georgia Ornithological Society, and Fannin County Wing Watchers
