This class is for beginners as well as intermediate to advanced.
Both levels will be able to produce functional or sculptural pieces as desired.
An Intro to Working With Clay: We will use the pinch, coil and slab technique in forming clay items. We will go through the (cycle of clay) in forming and also decorating and glazing our pieces. Wheel work will be demonstrated as a technique. It is important to understand the stages that clay goes through in order to be successful in the whole process.
Intermediate to Advanced: Students with prior wheel and hand building experience will be able to use the clay studio to further their work time and use the facilities to a higher degree. This section of the class will also use studio glazes and will be able to supply their own clay as long as it is cone 6 compatible. (NOT 06)
Lab fee will be paid to instructor of $25 for glaze material. Pinch Pot Portrait books will be available for $10 if desired.

Mike earned his Masters' degree in studio art at Western Carolina University in 1996. In addition, he has studied the art form at the prestigious Kansas City Art Institute and at Alfred University in New York State with such great American ceramists as Ken Ferguson, Val Cushing and Victor Babu.
He has been honored with such awards as the Daniel Clark Foundation Award of Excellence in Teaching. Teacher of the Year at his school of employment three times, Who's Who of American High School teachers six times, and Walt Disney World's Excellence in Teaching Award.
