To say that the moral vision of our society has dimmed to a troubling extent is to border on understatement.  In this course we will examine time-honored ethical systems in a quest to illumine moral principles that can guide us through dark and uncertain times.  These systems include Confucian ethics, the ethics of Aristotle, Judeo-Christian ethics, and the utilitarianism of Bentham and Mills.  Along the way we will apply these principles to real life moral situations.

John Kay is professor emeritus of religion and philosophy at Young Harris College and is co-founder of ICL.  Over the years he has taught a number of courses for the Institute.  He considers ethics to be a topic of particular importance in today’s morally conflicted and often confused society.
